Idea for a fairytale book

I'm a not exactly the most talented writer and my attempts at fantasy fiction, although good have become exceedingly difficult to finish. I seem unable to finish the last chapter, and have recently started writing fairytale stories for friends, mostly single girlfriends who want to be, like we all do, the fairytale princess who gets the handsome prince. This has led me to thinking that maybe, just maybe I'd be better off writing short childrens stories instead of long fantasy novels for angst teens. So far I only have one story, "The Tale of the Princess and the Ugliness Mirror", hoping to find more inspiration from others. I'll be asking my girlfriends for their stories of love, how they met their men/partners and turning these into fairytales. Maybe this is a good thing?
