Bilbao

The enchanting mountain air and almost alpian architecture makes you think you've driven too far. Althought the journey was arduous from Andalusia, it was well worth the 8 hours it took us to get there.

To be completely honest it reminded me of a welsh village that had outgrown it's mountain surrounds. Almost as if the local council had decided to turn the humble village into a city and had built between every available cravices. It's beauty is in it's architecture and its cosmopolitan air. It seems to be the missing piece of northern europe. There was a definite feeling of Belgium and Switzerland up there.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see much of the beautiful city except the Arriaga Theatre and a few of the old cities back streets. What I saw of it made me think of Edinburgh and places like that, strangely enough. It made me remember old ghost stories and Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, and I felt as if I could almost see Mr Hyde running into the shadows after he had committed a terrible and dastardly deed.

Maybe I'm just a little fanciful and you should ignore me completely. One thing I will say, if you are a tourist excepting a typically Spanish city, you won't find it in Bilbao. Over and Out
